US hurricane relief postpones tax deadlines for affected Florida businesses
On 14 October 2026, the US Internal Revenue Service announced Hurricane Isaias relief postponing specified federal tax filing and payment deadlines for affected Florida businesses to 8 February 2027.

The relief operates under Internal Revenue Code section 7508A, which permits Treasury to disregard a specified period for certain tax-related acts of affected taxpayers. Treasury Regulation 301.7508A-1 distinguishes the acts covered, the affected taxpayer and the disaster area identified in IRS guidance. The announcement applies that framework rather than granting every Florida business a general extension.[1][2][3]
Eligibility follows the entity and its records
FL-2026-07 identifies 27 counties, including Bay, Escambia and Leon. Eligible businesses include those with their principal place of business in the covered area. A business elsewhere may also qualify where records needed to meet a covered deadline are located there. A group should therefore assess each affected taxpayer and obligation, rather than extend relief automatically across all subsidiaries.[1][3]
Qualifying original or extended deadlines falling on or after 9 October 2026 and before 8 February 2027 are postponed to 8 February. The notice covers corporate and partnership returns, estimated income-tax payments, and specified employment and excise returns, including quarterly returns normally due on 2 November 2026 and 1 February 2027.[1]
Deposits and information returns need separate treatment
Payroll and excise deposits have a shorter penalty-abatement window. Deposits due from 9 October until before 26 October avoid penalties if made by 26 October. Businesses should not substitute the February filing date for that October deposit condition.[1][3]
The notice generally excludes listed standalone information returns, including Forms 1042-S and the 1099 series, unless a specific listed act qualifies. Return attachments are different: Revenue Procedure 2018-58 section 4.03 explains that postponing a return also postpones required attachments, expressly giving Form 5471 as an example. The relief is therefore not a blanket postponement, or blanket exclusion, of all international information reporting.[1][4]
IRS identification is automatic for taxpayers in the covered area. Affected taxpayers outside it must contact the IRS to request relief. For multinational tax teams, the immediate task is to map eligible entities, record locations, returns and deposits separately, retaining ordinary deadlines for obligations outside the announcement.[1][3]
