Jersey and Oman sign double taxation agreement

Published 2 min read

On 28 October 2026, Jersey and Oman signed a double taxation agreement in Muscat; the official announcement confirms signature, but does not establish when treaty relief will become available.

Official document:

Development date:

Jersey’s Minister for External Relations and Financial Services signed the agreement with the chairman of Oman’s Tax Authority. The Jersey Government describes it as a full double taxation agreement intended to provide greater certainty for individuals and companies operating between the two jurisdictions.[1]

The announcement also refers to preferential withholding-tax rates, but it does not supply the treaty articles or numerical limits. It therefore provides no basis for inserting a new dividend, interest or royalty rate into payment instructions. The signed instrument’s covered taxes, residence provisions and transaction-specific relief conditions require the text itself.[1]

Signature is the verified stage. The announcement does not identify ratification, an entry-into-force date or tax-specific application periods. Those missing details must not be replaced with the signing date, and the stated prospect of preferential rates is not evidence that any particular payment already qualifies for relief.[1]

For multinational groups, this is a treaty-development monitoring event rather than an immediate recalculation. Identify existing or planned Jersey–Oman investment and payment relationships, retain the current supported treatment, and monitor publication of the signed text and implementation notices. Any eventual rate or relief review must use the relevant entity and transaction facts, together with the treaty’s actual conditions and application dates.[1]
