New Zealand sets CRS schema cutover and myIR filing outage

Published 2 min read

On 27 October 2026, New Zealand Inland Revenue published a notice explaining its Common Reporting Standard (CRS) schema cutover. Reporting financial institutions will lose all myIR filing options from 1 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, before services reopen using schema 3.0 on 5 January.

The final day for submissions using the current schema is 30 November 2026. The temporary closure applies to every filing option in myIR, not just XML uploads. Early filing for the 2027 year is already unavailable and is also scheduled to restart on 5 January 2027.[1]

The submission method determines the preparation needed. The online form will have additional fields, Excel filers will receive a new template, and XML uploads will have to use schema 3.0 after cutover. Inland Revenue provides a validation service for testing XML files against the new schema and validation rules; a successful local format check should not be confused with an actual accepted filing.[1]

After cutover, the new format applies to all reporting, including corrections and additional information for periods ending on 31 March 2026 or earlier that were originally reported under an older schema. The notice permits transitional code values for the new fields. Keeping an earlier-period correction in the old file format will therefore not be a continuing filing route after services reopen.[1][2]

Inland Revenue’s key-dates guidance, updated on 19 October, already sets out this timetable. It separately retains the annual CRS reporting cycle: 1 April to 31 March, with information due by 30 June following that period. The November cutover is an operational submission cutoff, not a newly announced replacement for every annual reporting deadline.[2]

Financial-sector groups should identify their Reporting New Zealand Financial Institutions, outstanding reports and corrections, filing method and affected periods before the closure. The notice flags additional reportable products and mandatory information, but does not by itself establish that every group entity or account is reportable. It concerns financial-account CRS reporting, not the Pillar Two GloBE Information Return.[1][3]
