Belgium extends late-October tax-return deadlines after cyberattack

Published 1 min read

On 29 October 2026, Belgium’s Federal Public Service Finance announced that tax returns due around 31 October 2026 would have their deadline extended to 16 November 2026 following a cyberattack that interrupted online services.

The federal government’s French and Dutch announcements describe the extension by reference to returns due to FPS Finance around 31 October. The wording is important: this is relief for that filing cohort, not a newly stated deadline for every Belgian tax obligation or reporting period.[1][2]

The administration says potentially compromised components were isolated after the intrusion was detected. This made services including MyMinfin unavailable. Restoration must take place in an isolated environment and requires time; the announcement does not provide a date for restoring each affected service.[1][2]

For groups with a Belgian filing obligation, the immediate task is to match the particular return and its existing due date to the announced cohort before changing compliance records. The short announcement does not enumerate forms or financial-year ends. It also does not establish a corresponding extension of tax-payment dates or state that already-expired deadlines are revived; neither consequence should be assumed from this notice.[1][2]

The confirmed change is the administrative filing extension to 16 November for the stated late-October cohort. Detailed return-level application remains a separate check, particularly where a group has several Belgian reporting obligations with different periods and original deadlines.[1][2]
